The megacity of Istanbul with a population of 12.6 million is the largest city in Turkey. It is also known by the names Constantinople or Byzantium. It is also famous for being the only metropolis in the world that is situated in two different continents. It is situated on the Bosophorus Strait and extends both on the European and Asian sides.
Istanbul was anciently famous for being the capital of the Great Roman Empire, the Latin Empire and the Eastern Roman Empire as well. The historic peninsula of Istanbul is today popularly known as the Golden Horn and remains the topmost tourist attraction spot in this part of the world. Wonderful and scenic view of this peninsular land can be viewed from the Galata Tower. The Galata Bridge that connects this land is also a sight-seeing place for the tourists. The Golden Horn separates two different cities – the old city center from the European northern and younger areas.
